Hi! I made a new piece, and I had a lot of fun with it. It’s called Please; Climb Tree and here’s a few words and pictures on how I made it to spice up your Sunday.
If you’ve been following along, you’ll know that I’ve been getting increasingly more into messing around with analogue dry media1, smeared with a bit of water and of course with the trusty old 0.8 micron for those wonky fat lines. If you’re not following along make sure to;)
This time around I wanted to color in some of that line-work so I decided to draw this baby in two analogue layers, line and color, allowing me to separate the line-work in Affinity Photo (thasright, I’m free, baby) keeping the line texture with correct pixel opacity. Then combining the two. Delicious.

For these kinds of fun little pieces, I do digital touchups or comping if you will - color correction, adjustment layers, clone stamping texture and color here and there and adding some final pizzazz with digital brushes. In this case also coloring the line-work and coloring in those letters semitransparent. Feels like some kind of weird whisper. yikes. But also.. Nice?:) Anyhoo. Ta-daa!
These birdies along with a bunch of other beauties will be available before you know it through a new online PRINT STORE collective which I’m currently developing with some very VERY talented colleagues of mine. EXCITING. Get in touch already if you’d like to put in an early order!
Thanks for reading along and until next time, stay good, well, curious<3
And please; climb tree.
specifically the Faber-Castell water color pencils. So good. I smear these with just a tiny bit of water on my finger, barely a drop at a time, to get that balance between dry and wet.
Lovely 🙏
